Abstract The description and results of a pilot study of technical characteristics of an experimental sample of ultra-violet (UV) light-emitting diodes (LED) irradiator for an curing of composite materials on the basis of polyester resins is provided. As sources of UV-radiation in serially let out equipment for UV-curing composite materials are used the mercury lamps which shortcomings are well-known: low (about 0,5 %) efficiency; small (about 2 000 hours) service life; big allocation of heat and ozone; difficulties with utilization. Modern UV LEDs have a resource more than 20 000 hours, a narrow range of radiation, don"t demand special utilization and their application instead of mercury lamps provides increase of energy efficiency, service life and ecological safety of the equipment. UV LED irradiator turns on 12 blocks of irradiators with a total area of flare of 1,5 sq. m with one voltage source and the microprocessor control unit. Feature of the presented sample of an irradiator is lack of compulsory cooling systems. It is reached by application of a special pulse operating mode of LEDs. The presented sample of UF of a LED irradiator has expanded functionality and can be used as experimental installation for research of modes of an curing of composite materials.
