Abstract The article discusses the relationship of foreign language media stereotypes of culture with the norms of verbal behavior, by types of exercises, which in the opinion of the author, will teach students to distinguish these phenomena and to simulate verbal behavior, ignoring the stereotypes and follow the rules are determined. Forming communication, in particular the communicative competence of speech depends on the ability of the students to perceive the communicative environment and react accordingly to its features and changes. The influence of stereotypes and norms on the verbal behavior of communicants is also considered. The task of teaching in the light of this problem is to develop ways of thinking, the development of communication and other competencies that will help to recognize the norms and stereotypes and to adapt the future communicators’ behavior model according to circumstances. Further, the author defines the type of exercises meant to create a system which will contribute to achieving the goal.
