Abstract Temperature fields and thermoelastic stresses in a solid cylinder with an outer ring-shaped crack caused by cylinder cooling and heat source which models an instant energy liberation on crack banks because of crack"s growth at cylinder cooling are computed. It is shown that the values of these temperature fields and stresses are negligibly small as compared with thermoelastic stresses connected with cylinder cooling and causing instant growth of the ring-shaped crack.
