Abstract In this paper there are theoretically investigated electro-optic characteristics of thin planar sample of ferroelectric liquid crystal, where the deformation of twist structure by electric field is utilized. The anomalous dependence of switching time on amplitude of applied bipolar voltage is observed. There is showed the possibility of fast modulation of light by the effect of twist structure deformation that is an alternative of Clark – Lagerwall effect.
