Abstract The article depicts results obtained in experimental studies of charring for long-life wooden constructions under various temperature conditions of flame impingement. The essential effect of wooden constructions running time on the charring rate is found. The natural or artificial wood aging, according to the research results, being not identical for different timber species and operating conditions, defies the simplest description and forecasting. It is shown that during the natural aging the chemical wood composition transforms by oligosaccharides and polysaccharides sensitive to hydrolysis, as well as by materialsfound inan extractive wood component. The above transformationsresult inthe charringrate increaseinevitably impacting on the incombustibility of wooden constructions. The obtained research findings can be further used to estimatea fireresistant property for wooden constructions, to perform thermotechnical calculations of wooden construction heating, to simulate the combustion dynamics and the increase rate of fire hazards on woodenobjects.
