Abstract Understanding of the civil society concept leads to the attempt to widen categorical structure of contemporary scientific research in humanities. Besides this it allows to reveal traditional and modern layers in the concept and its interpretations that still seems doubtful. The article analyses this concept in all its peculiarities.
