Abstract The paper covers research of ways of modification of reconfigurable computer systems based on FPGAs, like increasing of technical characteristics of elements of the reconfigurable computer system such as the performance and the number of computational elements. Ways of modification are based on increasing of the performance of computational elements by using FPGA chips of new generations, and on increasing of the number of computational elements of the system. Analysis of ways of modification is performed according to the following condition: the time of the task execution remains constant when its dimension grows. The results of analysis of application of extensive, intensive and combined ways of modification with accepted limitations are shown. Using various ways of modification we analyze dependencies of technical characteristics of the modified reconfigurable computer system from the increment of the dimension of the solving task and values of its other parameters.
