Abstract The aim of the research was a theoretical study and development of calibration and graduation algorithm of the speed of sound measuring equipment, using pulse-cyclical or direct pulse method for the speed of sound measuring in water. To achieve this goal we solved following tasks: distribution identification of systematic errors of the speed of sound measuring using the above method in normal conditions with calibration liquids (fresh water, saline or ethanol solutions in water ) and a reference method of the speed of sound measuring; development of technical proposals to improve the measuring accuracy of the speed of sound by the promising pulse measuring equipment using N-th, as well as i-th and N-th ultrasonic pulses present at the acoustic basis; consideration of the calibration and graduation algorithms of the speed of sound measuring in water; development of the basic provisions of the graduation methods for the speed of sound measuring. As a result of studies we found and experimentally proved, that at the calibration it is necessary to minimize the speed of sound measuring error by hardware – software method using correction of input conversion factors of the pulse (or its frequency) propagation time in the value of the speed of sound; and further, at the graduation, the systematic measuring error testing in at least two points – in the middle, and at one end of the measuring range, is needed.
