Abstract This article presents the results of a computer simulation for the evaluation of fire resistance of unprotected steel columns and steel columns with fire protection of vermiculite boards. At the first stage of the study was to assess the reliability of the numerical modeling of steel columns without fire protection. The results of the sayings of the thermophysical and strength tasks were compared with the results of full-scale fire tests. On the second - the assessment of the impact of fire-retardant coating thickness on the fire resistance of steel columns. The solution of the latter problem, a set of routines (the language APDL), allowing to perform parametric calculation of fire resistance of steel columns with different reduced thickness.
