Abstract The thermomechanical properties of a number flame retardant siloxane compositions which can be ceramified at high temperatures was investigated. It was shown the existence. The temperature gap of 250–300 degrees was revealed between the decomposition temperature оf silicone matrix and the onset temperature of formation of the porous ceramic structure. It is established, that the greatest protective properties have of the coating with moderately developed porous structure, which thickness, after the formation of a protective layer of coating, do not change due to the collapse of pores. It is concluded that the components of the charge retardant in thermal effects must be involved in the capture of a silicone matrix material, and one or more components of the charge should facilitate the diffusion process of sintering.
