Abstract Conditions of ignition of rigid polyurethane and polyurethane foam before and after an polymerization are investigated. Difference of conditions of ignition of rigid polyurethane foam and polyurethane foam before and after an polymerization is revealed. At influence on liquid polyurethane foam foams the falling thermal stream not less than ~10 kW/sq.m found jumping flame effect on gaseous products of destruction from an ignition source to a sample on distance of 120–150 mm. Strong difference of nature of burning of liquid foam and firm polyurethane foam on its basis was also revealed. Rigid polyurethane foam burns to coke structure, on the other hand time of residual burning of liquid foam 10–15 seconds then burning stopped, thus on the scorched surface "the caramel layer " dark color is formed.
