Abstract A computer photoplethysmograph for continuous monitoring of heart rate variability was developed. It allows to estimate the influence of the autonomic nervous system on the heart rate regulation and the state of the organism as a whole. Measurement of intervals duration between arterial pulse at the location of the sensor device is used to get the heart rate variability indices. Monitoring mode as well as analysis of fragments of a fixed duration (5 minute) are implemented. We calculate the statistical, geometric, and spectral measurements of heart rate variability. The device is connected to the computer via USB.
