Abstract For compensation of theecho signals energy losses in sonar systems, caused by the wave frontdiscrepancy and attenuation in medium, in receiving path the time-varied gain control (TVG) is applied instead of required distance-varied gain control (DVG). The problem of silted small-sized targets detection by means of the compound signals with their subsequent matched filtering is solved by use of adaptive TVG, which compensatessignal attenuation in the ground. However it causesextraneous amplitude modulation leading to declining of the reliability of represented echo signal environment. On the base of broad-band linear frequency-modulated signal unacceptability of this solution is shown. The alternative solution in the form of TVG and adaptive «digital» DVGcombination is offered.
