Abstract Environmental monitoring of water bodies involves the study of hydro-physical parameters of the water environment. Remote sensing methods for measuring the vertical distribution of the velocity of sound in the ocean continues to attract attention of researchers. Research efforts aimed at developing methods to improve the accuracy characteristics. The work is assessed the accuracy of the arrival times of the received signals, required to solve the inverse problem of recovering the sea VRSZ sought to distance the pulse of equipment, based on a rectangular pattern bistatic sensing and receiving acoustic signals reflected from the relatively large single biological scatterers.
