Abstract This article discusses the problems of teaching methods of language translation for linguistic specialities. The psychological aspects of translation are presented. Translation is regarded as a specific kind of speech activity, which is characterized by such features as attention, memory, thinking, probabilistic forecasting, and has mediated and secondary character. It is necessary to form the ordered bilingualism when in the consciousness of the individual two language systems are connected by mutually equivalent units. The given technique of teaching makes students develop such aspects of thinking process as analysis, synthesis, abstraction, concretization, generalization, individualization,as well as general specific psychological mechanisms of translation.
