Abstract The features of the use of bionic approach to processing sensory information for neural network control systems of intelligent mobile robots are reviewed. The approach to the development of onboard mapping system of the information model of environment to the neural network control system is described. The information model is the result of onboard sensors data processing (analog CCD camera, the radial facet light sensor). The proposed bionic approach to development and model mapping of the environment based on a mathematical model of retinal ganglion cells, as well as the proposed threshold function, forming a unified approach to recognizing the obstacles and targets (regardless of lighting conditions for each of the cameras).
