Abstract The effects of two equal-intensity aerobic submaximal loads on the upper ("hand") and lower extremities ("legs") on the stability of the vertical posture in athletes (wrestlers, n = 31) were studied. The function of balance control was studied using a Stabilan-1-02 posturographic hard-ware and software system (Ritm, Russia). It is shown that as a "hands " physical exercise and a "legs" physical exercise increased linear sway velocities of the center of pressure in both athletes and controls (n=25). The recovery period of the postural stability was lower after the handwork (1 min) compared with the legwork (3 min). After both physical exercises the period of a decreased postural stability was lower in athletes: 1 minute in wrestlers and 3 minutes in controls after legwork, and 20 sec in wrestlers and 1 min 40 sec in controls after handwork. The vertical posture stability during both tests was on average higher compared with non-athletes (both p<0,05). Conclusion. Physical fatigue deteriorated postural control to the same extent after the works as the upper and the lower extremities. Physical training improves postural regulation system and accelerates recovery after exercise.
